The Taliban banned the wearing of "yakhnqaq and trousers" in universities

The announcement emphasizes that the appearance and attire, including the requirement for students and professors to grow beards and style their hair, must comply with the Taliban’s standards.

The Taliban have warned that a first violation will result in a warning, and in case of repetition, legal action will be taken.

The issuance of restrictive and stringent decrees by the Taliban on educational institutions is not unprecedented; since regaining control in August 2021, the group has imposed a series of strict regulations, including gender segregation, mandatory dress codes, and a complete ban on university education for girls and women above the sixth grade.

Experts warn that such restrictions not only erode individual freedoms but also negatively impact the quality of education and the academic environment; however, the Taliban describe these measures as part of “implementing Islamic values.”

Informed sources confirm that the Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue and Vice has issued an order to all public and private universities in the country, stating that professors and students are no longer allowed to enter classrooms wearing “a loose collar shirt or a jacket with trousers.”
