Meanwhile, Atal Mashwani, the spokesperson for the Taliban's Department of Physical Education and Sports, has confirmed the ban on this game to domestic media.

According to reports, Mashwani stated that due to some issues at the leadership level of the Chess Federation and in consideration of Sharia rulings regarding chess, the game has been banned.

This comes as the Taliban’s sports department had previously banned activities related to mixed martial arts in Afghanistan.

Reliable sources confirm that the Department of Physical Education and Sports under Taliban control has declared chess to be forbidden and has banned it.
