Zelensky: US plan to end Ukraine war must be 'honorable'

Zelenskyy made these remarks after meeting with a high-level American delegation in Kyiv, as Washington has presented a plan to end the Ukraine war.

Zelenskyy said on Thursday, November 20, after meeting with Daniel Driscoll, the U.S. Secretary of the Army, and Pentagon officials: "Ukraine needs a dignified peace, one that includes conditions with respect for our people's independence, sovereignty, and dignity."

He added: "Ukraine will not make any hasty statements about the agreement. The number one priority for all of us is a constructive diplomatic process with the United States and all our partners. Sustained support for the army and all defensive operations and planned attacks is essential."

Meanwhile, the White House announced that the U.S. proposal, which has the support of Donald Trump, is "good for both sides, Russia and Ukraine."

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated: "This plan is still being finalized; but the president supports it. This plan is beneficial for both countries, and we believe it should be acceptable to both sides."

She added that Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been working on this plan for over a month.

According to international media reports, this plan consists of 28 points and asks Ukraine to accept many of Russia's demands.

Under this plan, Kyiv must cede the eastern Donbas region, including the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, to Russia; European fighter jets must be stationed in Poland to protect Ukraine; and the Ukrainian army must be limited to 600,000 soldiers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that any agreement to end the war with Russia must create a "dignified peace."
