Israeli Defense Minister Plans to Transfer Gaza Population to Rafah Camp

Katz, in an interview with reporters, announced that he intends to establish a "humanitarian city" in Rafah that will initially accommodate approximately 600,000 people and ultimately house the entire population of about 2.1 million from the Gaza Strip in this camp.

He added that individuals will be transferred to the camp after security checks to ensure they are not members of armed groups such as Hamas, and they will not be allowed to leave afterward.

The Defense Minister also stated that, in the event of a ceasefire, the construction of this camp will begin during a 60-day ceasefire period between Israel and Hamas.

The United Nations has previously warned that the forced expulsion or transfer of civilian populations in occupied territories is prohibited under international humanitarian law and considers such an action "equivalent to ethnic cleansing."

So far, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have not reacted to this matter.

Israeli media have reported that Yisrael Katz, the country's Defense Minister, has ordered the military to prepare a plan for the complete transfer of the Gaza Strip's population to a large camp in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
