Poverty Spreads; UN Reports Worst Wave of Child Malnutrition in Afghanistan

The organization announced in a statement on Monday (13 Asad) that assistance to vulnerable families in Afghanistan requires 539 million dollars.

The World Food Programme states that nearly a quarter of Afghanistan's population, approximately 10 million people, face severe food insecurity, and one in three children suffers from physical growth impairment.

According to the report, the reduction in emergency food aid over the past two years, caused by a decrease in financial support from international donors, is one of the main factors contributing to child malnutrition.

This UN-affiliated agency added that the return of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries has further deepened the food crisis in the country.

The World Food Programme warned yesterday that at least 10 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance to survive.

This comes as poverty, unemployment, and destitution have sharply increased since the Taliban's return to power.

The United Nations World Food Programme has issued a newsletter warning of the most severe wave of child malnutrition in Afghanistan.
