Media Protection Organization calls for protection of Afghan journalists

Hamed Obaidi, the head of this organization, on Thursday, 30 Asad, during a meeting of the “Pen Norway” organization, called for support for Afghanistan’s media and the protection of journalists through international cooperation.

He also stated that Afghan journalists face serious obstacles within the country, and many of them are stranded in third countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and India.

The head of the Afghanistan Media Support Organization, emphasizing the need for serious attention from the international community to the situation of journalists, called for support in the areas of visas, training programs, job opportunities, and mental health, adding that this assistance should continue until journalists reach their destination countries.

It is worth noting that with the Taliban’s return to power, dozens of media outlets have been shut down due to imposed restrictions or economic challenges.

Furthermore, due to widespread restrictions and increased media suppression by the Taliban, hundreds of experienced journalists have left Afghanistan, and the few who remain continue their work under pressure, detention, and torture, in the shadow of fear of Taliban imprisonment.

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization expressed concern over the worsening media situation and the increasing strict oversight by the Taliban on media and journalists.
