Children of elderly British couple: Don't let our parents die in Taliban prison

The couple, Barbie Reynolds (76 years old) and Peter Reynolds (80 years old), have been detained by the Taliban without any formal charges and have been held for months in poor conditions without access to a lawyer or international oversight bodies.

The family of these two British citizens has announced that the United Nations is set to issue an official statement on Monday in support of their release.

According to The Guardian, during the initial weeks of their detention, the couple was held in separate cells and deprived of their basic rights.

The Taliban have not yet raised any specific charges against them; however, the group’s Ministry of Interior has claimed that “their case is under investigation.”

Human rights activists consider the detention of these two elderly citizens a clear example of the Taliban’s violation of international laws and arbitrary behavior.

In a statement released by the Reynolds family, it is stated: “Our parents have committed no crime. They are elderly, ill, and defenseless. Please do not let them perish in silence and oblivion in a Taliban prison.”

This detention comes amid numerous international reports highlighting an increase in human rights violations in Afghanistan, particularly in the areas of arbitrary detentions, torture, and suppression of individual freedoms.

The Guardian newspaper has reported that the children of an elderly British couple, who have been detained in a Taliban prison in Afghanistan for over five months, have called on the United Nations and international organizations to take action for the immediate release of their parents.
