Former military personnel killed; Body of former government soldier found in Farah

According to the sources, Taliban intelligence operatives detained this former soldier from his home approximately three months and 20 days ago and took him away, and since then, no information about his fate had been available.

The sources referred to this former soldier by the name Gul Ahmad and added that he served in the Afghan National Police in Farah during the previous government.

Gul Ahmad’s relatives say that his body was recovered after extensive searches, based on information provided by a shepherd, and was unearthed from the ground by Taliban intelligence.

The sources emphasize that Gul Ahmad had surrendered during the Republic, handed over his weapon to the Taliban, and received an amnesty card.

The Taliban have not yet reacted to this matter.

The killing of former soldiers by the Taliban is not an uncommon phenomenon. Reports indicate that over the past four years, hundreds of former soldiers have been detained, tortured, and killed.

This is despite the fact that the Taliban, after returning to power, announced a general amnesty; however, the United Nations and human rights organizations have repeatedly documented that the Taliban, contrary to their commitment, have detained, tortured, and killed former soldiers.

Local sources in Farah province say that the body of a former government soldier, who was detained by Taliban intelligence about three months ago, has been found.
