Deadly explosion in Islamabad; at least 12 killed

This incident occurred before noon today (Tuesday, November 20) in the parking lot of the courthouse building in the G-11 area of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.


According to police, the intensity of the explosion was such that several vehicles around the site of the incident caught fire.


Pakistani security officials have stated that this was a suicide bombing; however, in the initial hours, some news sources had described it as resulting from the explosion of a gas cylinder.


It is said that the bodies of the victims and the wounded have been transferred to hospitals in the city, and the level of security alert in Islamabad and surrounding areas has been increased.


To date, no group has claimed responsibility for this incident.

Pakistani media have reported that following an explosion near the Islamabad judicial complex, at least 12 people were killed and 27 others wounded.
