House-to-house search in B-17; A number of Afghan journalists arrested by Pakistani police

Pakistani police have stated that the purpose of this operation is to identify and detain migrants without residency documents.

According to local witnesses, police forces entered several homes without prior notice and checked the identity documents of residents.

Sources add that during this operation, a number of journalists were also detained by the police and transferred to a camp.

Based on statements from local sources, searches inside the camp are continuing with intensity.

The family of one of the detained journalists, in a conversation with Exile, requested anonymity for security reasons.

This operation comes at a time when, in recent months, pressure on Afghan migrants in Pakistan has increased, and reports of forced deportations, widespread detentions, and residency restrictions have been published.

Pakistani authorities have not yet commented on the matter.

Sources among Afghan migrants in Islamabad say that on Sunday, 5th of Asad, Pakistani police launched a large-scale operation in the B-17 township of Islamabad, conducting house-to-house searches.
