WHO: Taliban to lift restrictions on female aid workers

The organization announced on Monday, September 17, in a note on the social network X that female aid workers should be able to travel without a male guardian and provide assistance to women who need medical care after the earthquake.

Mukta Sharma, Deputy Representative of the World Health Organization's office in Afghanistan, said that one of the major current problems in the earthquake-affected areas is the severe shortage of female staff.

It should be noted that the Taliban, by imposing extensive restrictions on female aid workers, have not only deprived them of the freedom to travel and work independently, but have practically hindered their vital role in providing medical services and assistance to affected women.

The World Health Organization has asked the Taliban to lift restrictions on female aid workers following a deadly earthquake in eastern Afghanistan.
