US stops processing asylum cases

Joseph Adelo, the senior official of this agency, stated in an announcement that this suspension is intended to allow for a more thorough review of the asylum system and a more precise evaluation of applicants. According to him, no cases will be decided upon until the end of this review process.

This action comes just one day after the shooting incident involving two National Guard members near the White House grounds—an event that has once again thrust discussions on domestic security and U.S. immigration policy into the spotlight.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, also announced in the wake of this incident—and in line with his stringent immigration policies—that entry for migrants from certain developing countries will be suspended indefinitely. According to him, this decision is essential for rebuilding and reorganizing the structure of U.S. immigration.

Human rights activists and immigration organizations have warned of the consequences of this decision, stating that halting asylum cases could leave thousands of applicants in limbo and uncertainty.

It remains unclear at present how long this suspension will last and whether it will also apply to cases already under review.

Following recent security developments in Washington, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has decided to temporarily halt the processing of asylum applications.
