Trump sends special envoy to Moscow to finalize Ukraine deal

Trump wrote on the social network "Truth Social" that "only a few points of contention remain," while Zelensky has welcomed Washington's revised plan.

He also expressed hope that he would "soon" meet with Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky; "but only when an agreement to end the war has been finalized or is in its final stages."

The initial U.S. plan, which was said to be heavily in Russia's favor, has now been replaced with an alternative plan that, according to reports, better accommodates Ukraine's interests.

Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has stated that "there is clearly no willingness on the part of Russia" for a ceasefire or to discuss the new plan, which is more favorable to Ukraine.

Since the end of last week, intensive negotiations have been held in Geneva between delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and European allies regarding Washington's initial 28-article plan.

International media have reported that the latest round of these talks on the alternative plan, with the participation of U.S. and Russian representatives, is continuing in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, leaders of 30 countries supporting Ukraine held a video conference on Tuesday.

The White House has also announced "significant progress" in the negotiation process; but warned that "a few sensitive but resolvable issues" still remain.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced on Tuesday, November 25, that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is heading to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia; a move he hopes will lead to an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
