World Food Programme: 3.7 million children face severe malnutrition

This organization has announced that for the first time in several decades, it may not be able to fully implement its winter aid program; as the current budget only covers 30 percent of essential needs.

Meanwhile, 305 nutrition centers have been closed due to financial problems and access restrictions.

According to the World Food Programme report, Afghanistan ranks fourth in the world for acute child malnutrition, with 3.7 million children under five years old suffering from malnutrition; to the extent that one in every five children is reported to be severely underweight.

This report also shows that 1.2 million pregnant and lactating women are suffering from acute malnutrition.

The World Food Programme has emphasized that this crisis is preventable and timely support can save the lives of Afghan citizens. This organization has urged other international entities to immediately take action in coordination with the World Food Programme to address this crisis.

The World Food Programme has warned that with the approaching winter, malnutrition in Afghanistan, especially among children and women, may increase dramatically.
