Israel and Hamas agree on 'first phase' of peace plan to end Gaza war

On Thursday, October 9, Donald Trump announced in a post on the social media platform Truth Social that an agreement between Hamas and Israel has been reached, and all hostages held in Gaza will soon be released. He also stated that Israeli forces will withdraw from the Gaza Strip in accordance with this agreement.

Meanwhile, Hamas also confirmed that it has reached this agreement following discussions regarding the U.S. President's proposed plan. The group stated that the agreement includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and an exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas called on Trump and the guarantor countries to ensure that Israel fully implements the terms of the ceasefire. The group also announced that it will likely release the remaining 20 living hostages by the end of the week.

According to reports, the exchange of hostages and prisoners is set to take place within 72 hours following the signing of the agreement, which is expected to occur on Thursday.

It is worth noting that this war, which began on October 7, 2023, following Hamas's attack on Israel, has lasted over two years. In that attack, approximately 1,200 people were killed in Israel, and nearly 250 were taken hostage. In contrast, over 60,000 people have died in the Gaza Strip, and the region faces widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis.

Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on the "first phase" of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan to halt the war in Gaza and secure the release of a number of hostages and prisoners.
