Civil penalties continue; Taliban flog 13 people in Kabul for drug trafficking

The court stated in a statement released on Thursday, 9 Saratan, that six of these individuals received between 15 and 30 lashes, while the other seven were given between 10 and 25 lashes.

The statement noted that these individuals were punished with lashes in public for charges related to gambling, selling and smuggling intoxicating tablets, heroin, and hashish.

Over the past four years, Taliban groups have publicly whipped hundreds of Afghan citizens on various charges.

However, the United Nations and human rights organizations have repeatedly called for an end to executions and public whippings, but the Taliban have ignored these demands.

The Taliban Supreme Court announced in a statement that 13 individuals were publicly whipped in Kabul on charges of selling and smuggling drugs.
