The Express Tribune: The Taliban have transferred 500,000 US weapons to the black market

These weapons, which were abandoned in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of U.S. forces in 2021, were gradually removed from circulation and offered on the black market.

The United Nations has also confirmed that some of these weapons have reached groups linked to al-Qaeda.

Some reports indicate that these weapons were freely sold in markets for up to a year after the change of government and are still being traded covertly.

While the Taliban have denied these allegations, claiming that all weapons are in the possession of their forces, some internal group officials have admitted that they lack precise information about half of these weapons.

It has also been reported that the Taliban have allowed their local commanders to keep 20 percent of the American equipment for themselves, which has contributed to the spread of smuggling and illegal sales across the country.

These reports have heightened concerns about regional security and the expansion of terrorist activities.

The Express Tribune, quoting a British media outlet, reported that the Taliban, after taking control of Afghanistan, sold or illegally smuggled approximately 500,000 pieces of American military weapons that remained in Afghanistan to terrorist groups.
