Doha announces appointment of new ambassador to Afghanistan

The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated in a statement on (Wednesday, 2nd of Qaws) that Mardef bin Ali Al-Qashouti, the new ambassador of this country to Afghanistan, has submitted his credentials to the Taliban prime minister.

Meanwhile, the Taliban's Arg on Wednesday wrote in a press release that officials of this group at this ceremony emphasized strengthening diplomatic relations with Qatar.

According to the Arg's announcement, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister, and Mullah Abdul Wasee, head of the Taliban prime minister's office, were also present at this ceremony.

According to the Taliban, Mardef bin Ali Al-Qashouti, Qatar's new ambassador to Afghanistan, said during a meeting with officials of this group that his country wants to improve the situation in Afghanistan and will work to strengthen relations between Doha and Kabul.

The Emir of Qatar in the month of Aqrab this year had appointed Mardef bin Ali Al-Qashouti as his extraordinary ambassador to Afghanistan. He handed over his credentials to Amir Khan Muttaqi last week.

Qatar has had close relations with the Taliban over the past years, and officials from both sides have made numerous trips between Kabul and Doha in the more than four years. Despite these relations, Qatar, like many countries, has not yet recognized the Taliban administration.

Doha, which has handed over the Afghan embassy in Qatar to the Taliban, has also recently launched new efforts to improve this group's relations with regional countries.

Qatar continues to play a mediating role and has recently hosted meetings and negotiations between senior Taliban and Pakistani military officials to help reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue between the two sides.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that it has sent a new ambassador to Afghanistan.
