Internews Afghanistan correspondent: Exiled media are the only remaining bridge to tell the truth

Boyle, who spoke online at the event on (Friday, 30 Aqrah) [Note: "Aqrah" likely refers to the Afghan month of Aqrab/November], said that due to the closure of the media space in Afghanistan, the problems and realities of people's lives are not being conveyed to the global level as they should be.

She emphasized that exiled media now play a determining role and, without serious support, cannot fulfill the heavy duty of documenting and narrating the situation of women and other vulnerable groups.

This symposium, initiated by the organization supporting Afghan media in Berlin, has brought together dozens of journalists, media activists, and researchers to examine challenges related to access to information.

Alongside Boyle, Richard Bennett, the Special Rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Council, also spoke at the event and stated that freedom of expression and civil activity in Afghanistan are under the targeted and organized restrictions of the Taliban.

Shermineh Boyle, head of the Afghanistan department at Internews, warned in her speech at the "Global Symposium on Freedom of Expression in Afghanistan" that the continuation of the Taliban's restrictions severely threatens the future of freedom of expression and the free flow of information in the country.
