UN Security Council condemns Israel's attack on Qatar

The Council, on Thursday (20 Senbula), expressed regret over the killing of civilians in this attack, declared its solidarity with Qatar, and described the role of this country in efforts to mediate between Israel and Hamas as important.


The statement states that the Security Council supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter. The Council has also, with reference to the war in Gaza, emphasized the release of hostages and the ending of the conflict and the suffering of the people of Gaza.


Meanwhile, the Israeli army targeted Hamas leaders in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in an attack on Wednesday. According to Hamas, in this attack, five members of this group, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya, deputy head of its political office, were killed; however, members of this movement's negotiating team survived unscathed.


Qatar has also condemned this attack and described it as a "flagrant violation of its sovereignty and national security." Additionally, a number of countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, the European Union, Turkey, Egypt, Germany, Iran, and Britain, have also condemned Israel's action.
