Trump changes the name of the US Department of Defense to the "Department of War"

The White House, on Thursday (3rd of Sptember), issued a statement saying that with the implementation of this order, Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and his subordinates will be permitted to use titles such as "Department of War" and "Secretary of War" in official correspondence and statements.

Changing the name of a department in the United States cannot be officially and legally implemented without congressional approval; however, Republicans aligned with Trump control the Senate and the House of Representatives and have shown little opposition to Trump's actions.

Trump, the current President of the United States, has changed the names of some U.S. locations and military bases since returning to the White House in January of this year.

In June of this year, he proposed the plan to rename the Department of Defense, and it is set to be officially implemented today with the signing of an executive order.

The White House announced that Donald Trump, President of the United States, is set to sign an executive order on Friday to change the name of the United States Department of Defense to the Department of War.
