Corporal punishment continues; Taliban publicly flog 15 people in three provinces

The court stated in a newsletter on Thursday, 16 Asad, that these individuals were punished with 10 to 39 lashes and sentenced to one to three years of imprisonment for charges including the sale and trafficking of alcoholic beverages, narcotic tablets, illicit relationships, and theft.

The newsletter stated that seven individuals were punished in Kabul in the presence of the public and officials of this group for the trafficking and sale of alcoholic beverages, hashish, and Zikb tablets.

The Taliban's Supreme Court also announced in two other newsletters that eight other individuals were punished with 20 to 39 lashes in the Shahjoy district of Zabul and Kunduz for charges of theft, illicit relationships, and male homosexual relations.

The Taliban stated that the execution of these punishments was carried out in the presence of local authorities, court officials, and residents.

It is worth mentioning that over the past four years, the Taliban have reported almost daily on the execution of whipping sentences on citizens for various charges.

The United Nations, human rights institutions, and organizations have described public punishments as a violation of human rights and an affront to human dignity, repeatedly calling for an end to these actions; however, the Taliban have referred to the punishment of individuals as a directive of Sharia and have not relented in this regard.

The Taliban's Supreme Court has announced that 15 individuals, including one woman, have been publicly whipped in Kabul, Zabul, and Kunduz on various charges.
