Children in Afghanistan; UNICEF: Lack of funding threatens the lives of millions of children

Tajudeen Oyewale, head of UNICEF's representation in Afghanistan, announced on Thursday, 28 Hamal, through a message posted on the X network that approximately 3.5 million children under five years old in Afghanistan will face malnutrition issues in the current year.

According to him, at least 1.5 million of these children are at risk of acute and severe malnutrition. Oyewale called on the international community for urgent action to provide assistance, stating that without financial support, the provision of life-saving therapeutic foods is not possible.

Previously, the World Food Programme had also announced that the malnutrition situation in Afghanistan is at its worst in recent years and warned that every ten seconds, a child may fall victim to this crisis.

Both organizations have emphasized that with sufficient funding, it is possible to prevent the escalation of this crisis; however, in the absence of resources, the lives of millions of Afghan children are in serious danger.

The office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan has warned that due to a decline in global aid, critical therapeutic food reserves for children have significantly decreased.
