Russia: The West seeks to maintain instability in Afghanistan by supporting Taliban opponents

Naryshkin added that this approach by the West is pursued to advance their geopolitical interests.

He emphasized that Western countries continue to freeze Afghanistan's assets and maintain sanctions against the Taliban.

The head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service also referred to the improvement of Russia’s relations with the Taliban, stating that Moscow views the Taliban’s "state-building" process positively and believes in the prospect of the Taliban’s government gaining international recognition.

He also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of regional countries such as Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in identifying terrorist threats and stressed the need for Afghanistan’s reconstruction and prosperity for the shared interests of the region.

Sergei Naryshkin, the head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, stated at the conference "Afghanistan, Regional Connectivity, Security, and Development" held in Baku that Western intelligence agencies are attempting to assist Taliban opponents and keep Afghanistan in a state of instability.
