Corporal punishment continues; Taliban publicly flog two men accused of banditry in Nangarhar

According to the Taliban, these individuals were each sentenced to 39 lashes on Sunday (November 23) based on a ruling from the primary court of Spin Zar district in Nangarhar province.

The press release also stated that following confirmation by the Supreme Court's higher authorities, the punishment was carried out, and each individual was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment.

The Taliban's Supreme Court added that the flogging sentence was executed in the presence of officials from the group and the public.

In the past three days, the Taliban had also flogged four other individuals in Nangarhar and Balkh provinces and sentenced them to prison.

The Taliban's field courts continue despite international condemnations.

Human rights organizations and the United Nations have repeatedly expressed concern over the continuation of this practice, stating that defendants in the Taliban's judicial system are deprived of fair trials and access to defense lawyers.

Despite widespread criticism, the Taliban say that their actions are in accordance with Sharia and that they will not back down from them.

The Taliban's Supreme Court announced in a press release that two individuals have been flogged in public in Nangarhar province on charges of robbery.
