Pakistan Army: US should buy and collect equipment left in Afghanistan

Islamabad has warned that these weapons have fallen into the hands of insurgents in Afghanistan and Pakistan, potentially increasing regional security threats.

According to The Economist, Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistani army, stated: "In Afghanistan, everything, especially American weapons, is being offered at the highest price."

He emphasized that the United States must take practical steps to prevent further access by insurgent groups to these weapons and collect them from the market.

Chaudhry also stressed the need for broader intelligence cooperation between Washington and Islamabad to counter the threats posed by militants.

On the other hand, Pakistani officials have urged the U.S. and its Western allies to take Islamabad's claims about India's role in supporting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Baloch separatist groups seriously and to pressure New Delhi to halt these activities.

According to a U.S. Department of Defense report, the value of the equipment left behind in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of U.S. forces exceeds seven billion dollars. This equipment includes armored vehicles, advanced weapons, biometric devices, and other military technologies.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post previously reported that some insurgent groups in Pakistan, including Islamist fighters in the northern regions and Baloch insurgents in the southwest, are using these same American weapons left behind in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani army has requested that the United States repurchase and collect the weapons and military equipment left behind after the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan in 2021, which are now being sold in informal markets.
