Efforts to End War in Ukraine; European Leaders Meet Trump at White House

This meeting followed a meeting on Friday (15 August) between Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Trump in Alaska, which did not lead to a ceasefire.

No specific commitments regarding security guarantees or practical steps for a peace agreement were reached during the White House talks either.

One of Putin’s advisors stated that Trump had spoken with Vladimir Putin by phone for 40 minutes prior to this meeting.

Meanwhile, Trump wrote on the “Truth Social” network after the meeting with European leaders that he had contacted Putin to initiate talks between the Russian leader and Zelenskyy.

Trump added that following such a bilateral meeting, a trilateral meeting would also be held at a location yet to be determined, in which he himself would participate.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, and several European leaders met with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, at the White House on Monday (18 August) to aim for an end to the Ukraine war.
