EU and UNESCO launch €4.7 million literacy project in Afghanistan

The European Union Delegation in Afghanistan has announced that this institution, in partnership with UNESCO, has initiated a project worth 4.7 million euros aimed at supporting returning migrants and individuals in host communities.

According to the published information, under this program, approximately 7,500 people—including youth and the elderly—will participate in literacy courses, basic skills training, and sustainable income generation programs in five provinces of the country.

The European Union wrote on its official page:

"This project launch is a step toward providing essential education and literacy so that vulnerable communities and returnees from migration can become empowered and acquire the necessary skills to enter the job market."

The institution has emphasized that assistance in enhancing vocational skills and creating income opportunities for the people of Afghanistan remains part of the European Union's long-term commitments.

This project announcement comes as Afghanistan faces severe economic challenges, widespread unemployment, and educational restrictions, with many returning migrants confronting serious difficulties in the absence of suitable job opportunities.

The European Union, in collaboration with UNESCO, has launched a new program to strengthen literacy and skills training in Afghanistan.
