Continued public violence; Taliban whip 16 people in Kapisa and Khost

The court stated in a press release on Sunday, the sixth of Miizan, that three individuals received public floggings in Nadir Shah Kot district of Khost province on charges of "moral corruption" and "illicit relations."

According to this press release, each of these individuals received 30 lashes and was also sentenced to three months of suspended imprisonment.

Another press release stated that last week, on Thursday, a flogging sentence was carried out against 13 individuals, including six women, in Kapisa on charges of fleeing the home and illicit relations.

The press release adds that, based on the ruling of the authorities in Kapisa province, each of these individuals received 39 lashes in public.

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has repeatedly punished individuals in public on various charges, including theft, extramarital sexual relations, sodomy, and drug trafficking.

These actions have consistently faced severe criticism from human rights organizations and the United Nations. These organizations have stated that flogging and other forms of corporal punishment in public constitute torture and a violation of Afghanistan's international commitments on human rights, and that the Taliban's rulings are issued and implemented without a transparent judicial process.

The Taliban's Supreme Court has announced that 16 individuals, including six women, have been flogged on various charges in Kapisa and Khost provinces.
