A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has shaken northern Afghanistan.

Local officials have announced that at least seven people were killed and about 150 others injured as a result of this earthquake.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, this earthquake occurred at a depth of 28 kilometers underground and near Mazar-i-Sharif, a city with a population of approximately 523,000.

This organization issued an orange alert in its warning system. This system, which automatically assesses the extent of earthquake damage, has stated that "there is a likelihood of significant casualties and the disaster may be widespread."

According to the assessment of this system, earthquakes with an orange alert level usually require an emergency response at the regional or national level.

This is the second powerful earthquake in recent months; earlier in August, an earthquake in Kunar province left at least two thousand dead and more than ten thousand injured.

Early Monday morning, October 4, an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck northern Afghanistan. The epicenter of this earthquake was reported near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
