Sky News: A child dies every three days in Badakhshan provincial hospital

This statistic shows a 50 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The report states that a large number of children suffering from severe malnutrition are hospitalized in this facility, to the extent that in some wards, two children have been placed on a single bed, and some are being kept alive solely with oxygen devices.

Based on United Nations statistics, more than four million and 700 thousand women and children in Afghanistan require urgent treatment for malnutrition, and approximately 90 percent of children under five years old are living in a state of absolute food poverty.

Sky News says that the suspension of humanitarian aid and the closure of health centers in deprived areas is one of the reasons for the increase in child fatalities. Some families have said that they traveled up to 13 hours to bring their sick children to the Badakhshan hospital.

Some mothers, in conversations with this media outlet, have stated that they had previously lost their children due to malnutrition as well. According to them, the Taliban's restrictions on women's education and employment have deprived families of the ability to provide sufficient food for their children.

Health workers and UNICEF-supported projects have warned that if the current situation continues and international aid does not resume, the number of child victims in Afghanistan will increase dramatically.

Sky News has reported in a recent report that over the past three months, on average, one child has died every 72 hours in the provincial hospital in Badakhshan.
