UNAMA: Taliban pressure doctors not to treat women

The report notes that Taliban "Amr bil-Ma'ruf" (vice and virtue) officials in some areas have pressured doctors to refrain from treating female patients. Additionally, in some provinces, it has been ordered that women are not allowed to receive medical treatment without a male guardian.

UNAMA has confirmed that female healthcare workers have also been required to have a designated male guardian present at their workplace. In Kandahar, Amr bil-Ma'ruf officials have visited dental clinics and stated that male doctors are not permitted to treat female patients.

According to UNAMA, in the past three months, the Taliban have arbitrarily detained at least 456 individuals and imprisoned dozens of women in Kabul on charges of "non-compliance with hijab." The organization has also reported instances of torture and killing of security forces from the previous government.

UNAMA has warned that the Taliban's new restrictions on healthcare services have put the lives of thousands of Afghan women at risk, and serious human rights violations in the country continue unabated.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has stated in a recent report that the Taliban administration continues to discriminate against and suppress women in Afghanistan.
