Some Afghan citizens were denied the right to obtain passports

The directorate, on Saturday (1st of Sunbula), issued a statement declaring that this new restriction applies to several groups, including individuals convicted by Taliban courts, those whose exit ban status has been confirmed through biometric systems or "BIF," and children who lack a legal guardian.

The statement emphasized that all individuals registered as banned from leaving the country in these systems will be deprived of the right to obtain a passport.

Under Afghanistan's previous laws, all citizens had the right to obtain a passport, with restrictions imposed only in certain criminal cases. However, the Taliban's new directive has significantly expanded the scope of these restrictions, raising concerns about increased pressure on political opponents and former government employees.

Some observers warn that the Taliban may use the exit ban as a tool to exert greater control and pressure on their opponents.

The General Directorate of Passports, under Taliban control, has announced that certain Afghan citizens will no longer be eligible to obtain passports from this country.
