She added that Russia has always supported mutually beneficial cooperation with Afghanistan for the benefit of the people of both countries and will continue this approach.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that recognizing the Taliban will pave the way for establishing full partnership between Moscow and this group.

Zakharova also announced that Moscow and the Taliban are in negotiations to start commercial and economic cooperation.

She stressed that the Taliban’s participation in countering regional security threats, especially in combating drug trafficking and terrorism, is very important.

This comes as the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Moscow officially recognizes the Taliban regime as the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.”

Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, says that cooperation with the Taliban is of particular importance in strengthening regional security, combating terrorism, and fighting drug trafficking.
