Russia to host major summit with Taliban in Kazan

This meeting will take place on the sidelines of the “Kazan Forum” and is considered a significant step toward strengthening formal relations between Moscow and Kabul.

In an interview with the TASS news agency, Kabulov added that this event was planned following the recent decision by Russia’s Supreme Court to lift the terrorist status of the Taliban.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also welcomed this decision, emphasizing that this step will pave the way for the establishment of full-fledged partnerships with the Taliban government and is in the mutual interests of the people of Russia and Afghanistan.

The ministry’s statement further stressed the development of trade and investment between the two countries.

Following the suspension of the Taliban from Russia’s list of terrorist groups, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian President’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, announced that a major meeting between Russia and the Taliban will be held in mid-May in the city of Kazan.
