Taliban whip 13 people in three provinces

The court stated in a newsletter issued on (Sunday, the second of Khordad) that these individuals have been sentenced to 10 to 39 lashes and seven months to two and a half years in prison.

At the same time, the Taliban's Supreme Court announced in two separate newsletters the implementation of flogging sentences on four individuals on charges of theft and illicit relations in Baghlan and Faryab.

The newsletter states that the defendants have each been sentenced to 35 to 36 lashes and three months to one year in prison.

Since the Taliban's return to power, they have almost daily announced the implementation of flogging sentences on citizens across Afghanistan on various charges.

Human rights organizations and the United Nations have repeatedly expressed concern over the continuation of this trend, stating that defendants in the Taliban's judicial system do not have access to fair trials and legal representation.

Despite widespread criticism, the Taliban say that their actions are in accordance with Sharia and that they will not back down from them.

The Taliban's Supreme Court announced in a newsletter that nine individuals in Kabul have been flogged on charges of selling and trafficking narcotics and alcoholic beverages.
