France to deliver 100 Rafale fighter jets to Ukraine

After signing the agreement, Zelenskyy told reporters: "This will be our largest air defense system, one of the best in the world."

In a note, he wrote: "Today marks an important and historic moment for both of our countries, France and Ukraine." Zelenskyy added that this joint defense agreement will enable Ukraine to procure military equipment from France's defense industries and technologies, including 100 Rafale 'F4' model aircraft by 2035, SAMP/T air defense systems, air defense radars, air-to-air missiles, and air bombs.

He also expressed gratitude to Emmanuel Macron and described the purchase of these aircraft as an important step toward strengthening Ukraine's army.

This comes as Zelenskyy has been urging Western partners for months to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities against Russia's ongoing missile and drone attacks, even as Russia continues its assaults and seizes more areas of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement on Monday, November 17, with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Villacoublay Air Base near Paris. Under this agreement, Ukraine will purchase up to 100 advanced Rafale fighter jets from France over the next decade.
