Prominent Afghan women's rights activist arrested in Iran

The detention took place in one of the northern regions of Iran, and according to her close associates, officers stormed the house where she was staying, transferring Ms. Pezhwak and several others to a detention facility.

According to reports, the reason for her detention is said to be an investigation into her residency status. After her arrest, she was initially taken to a local police station and then transferred to a temporary migrant camp.

Reports indicate that if immediate action is not taken to secure her release, there is a possibility of her being transferred to camps in Khorasan and deported to Afghanistan.

Human rights activists have warned that deporting Ms. Pezhwak to Afghanistan could put her life at risk, as she has previously been the target of serious threats from the Taliban due to her extensive activities in the field of women's rights and civil liberties.

The Afghanistan Human Rights Watch organization, expressing concern about her situation, has called on Iranian authorities to clarify Ms. Pezhwak's place of detention and ensure her access to a lawyer and her family.

The organization has also urged the Iranian government to refrain from any forced deportation of this human rights activist to Afghanistan and to release her immediately.

In its statement, Human Rights Watch stated that the detention of human rights defenders for their peaceful activities is a clear violation of Iran's international commitments regarding freedom of expression and human rights.

Meanwhile, a number of Afghan and Iranian civil activists have expressed solidarity with Ms. Pezhwak, calling for the international community's attention to her situation and warning that neglect in this matter could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.

Halima Pezhwak, a well-known advocate for Afghan women's rights, has recently been detained by Iranian security forces.
