US no longer considers Tahrir al-Sham a terrorist group

The statement, released on Monday (16 Saratan), noted that the Syrian government has taken positive steps in the fight against terrorism.

Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, praised these actions, stating that the decision was made to reduce sanctions on Syria and to support the goal of the Donald Trump administration to achieve a stable, unified, and peaceful Syria.

The Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, under Ahmad Shara's leadership last year, overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime in a swift and organized attack. Following these developments, Ahmad Shara was declared the new president of Syria and pledged to form an inclusive, democratic government with constructive relations with the international community, particularly the United States.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with Reuters, described the U.S. decision as a "positive step" and called for the lifting of other sanctions. However, United Nations sanctions against the group and Ahmad Shara remain in place.

The U.S. State Department announced in a statement that the group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Syria," led by Ahmad Shara, has been removed from the country's list of terrorist organizations.
