Draft UN resolution on Afghanistan approved

The resolution expresses deep concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan, particularly the widespread restrictions on women, and calls on countries to establish an inclusive government.

The continuation of the Doha talks with the Taliban, aimed at achieving comprehensive political participation and the group's commitment to combating terrorism, is considered a key component of this resolution.

The resolution is also based on the latest report by the UN Secretary-General, which reviews and updates the organization's political, humanitarian, and human rights activities in Afghanistan.

The report states that the number of security incidents between February and April 2025 increased by three percent compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, with an emphasis on the necessity of forming an inclusive government, issues such as military casualties, border conflicts, the implementation of corporal punishments, and other human rights violations are also addressed.

The United Nations on Monday adopted a draft resolution on Afghanistan with 116 votes in favor, two votes against (the United States and Israel), and 12 abstentions.
