CBS News: The US-Taliban negotiations for the release of Amir Amiri began in March.

According to this report, Amiri's release was achieved through the mediation of Qatari diplomats and coordination with the office of the U.S. Special Representative for Hostage Affairs. Qatar, which has been representing U.S. interests in Kabul since the fall of the previous Afghan government in 2021, had previously facilitated the release of four other American citizens from the Taliban earlier this year.

Amir Amiri was detained in December 2024. Based on available information, the negotiation process for his release began in March, and the first meeting between him and "Adam Boehler," the U.S. President's Special Representative for Hostage Affairs, took place during this official's trip to Afghanistan.

It is said that Qatari diplomats closely monitored Amiri's health status throughout his detention period and maintained constant contact with U.S. officials.

This release comes at a time when the issue of the detention and release of foreign nationals remains one of the sensitive files in relations between the Taliban and the United States.

CBS News has reported that "Amir Amiri," a U.S. citizen who was detained in Afghanistan about 9 months ago, was released on Sunday (September 28) and is currently en route back to America.
