Spread of intimidation; Taliban flog 30 people in one day in two provinces

This court stated in a press release on Monday, November 16, that each of these individuals received 10 to 39 lashes and has been sentenced to 10 months to six years of suspended imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the Taliban court has written in another press release that 11 other individuals have been punished in public in Kabul on charges of smuggling and selling narcotics and alcoholic beverages.

According to this court, these individuals received 10 to 39 lashes and have been sentenced to seven months to seven years in prison.

Since the Taliban returned to power, they have been reporting almost daily on the implementation of flogging sentences on citizens across Afghanistan on various charges.

Human rights organizations and the United Nations have repeatedly expressed concern over the continuation of this trend, stating that defendants in the Taliban judicial system are deprived of fair trials and access to defense lawyers.

Despite widespread criticism, the Taliban say that their actions are in accordance with Sharia and that they will not back down from them.

The Supreme Court has announced in a press release that 19 individuals have been flogged in Zabul province on various charges, including theft, adultery, sodomy, and illicit relations.
