Special Representative of Pakistan: Some members of the Taliban have joined extremist groups

This Pakistani official added that despite recent meetings between officials from Islamabad and Kabul, no significant progress has been made in curbing the TTP threat, and the Taliban remain hesitant to take direct action against this group. According to him, the Taliban are concerned that confronting the TTP could lead their forces to join ISIS.

He also noted that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan is not only a challenge to Pakistan’s internal security but has also weakened bilateral relations with the Afghan Taliban. Sadiq emphasized that addressing the activities of extremist groups, including the TTP, must be prioritized to resolve regional tensions.

Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, stated that a number of Taliban members have joined groups such as ISIS and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Speaking at the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad, he clarified that internal disagreements within the Taliban regarding confronting the TTP have hindered addressing Pakistan’s security concerns.
