Amnesty International: Ending harassment of transgender people in Lahore is an urgent demand

The human rights organization stated that Pakistani police recently raided the homes of three transgender activists at midnight and detained them.

According to Amnesty International, the detained individuals have no connection to the criminal case filed against them and dozens of other transgender individuals.

The statement emphasized that the detained individuals faced threats and humiliation during their interrogation.

Amnesty International urged local authorities to refrain from arbitrary detentions and the discriminatory use of laws against sexual minorities. The organization also called for the repeal of the vague law related to "obscenity," which, according to experts, creates opportunities for abuse and social repression.

Meanwhile, a court in Lahore dismissed the case against these individuals, who were accused of holding a private party, due to insufficient evidence. Despite this ruling, concerns persist regarding the arbitrary interpretation of moral laws and social media against vulnerable groups.

Amnesty International issued a statement calling on the Pakistani government to immediately halt the "humiliating and unlawful" behavior of security forces against transgender activists in Lahore.
