Taliban seize 38 acres of land in Badakhshan

The ministry, on Saturday, 3rd of Aqrab, stated in a press release that these lands consist of 15 plots in the Khwaja Maroof area of the second district of Faizabad city.

The Ministry of Justice wrote that the “Commission for the Prevention of Government Property Usurpation” had reviewed the case and referred it to a special court for the northern zone, which, based on the collected documents and information, determined the lands to be government property.

However, legal sources say that land-related courts under Taliban administration are typically held without the presence of a defense lawyer and lack the necessary transparency in the judicial process.

Some residents of Faizabad also state that many land confiscation decisions are made without thorough investigation of ownership and are based on political directives.

In the past four years, the Taliban have declared agricultural and urban lands as “government property” in several provinces, including Kabul, Nangarhar, and Balkh, taking them from their previous owners. Critics believe that the Taliban’s special commission in this regard not only lacks clear legal standards but has, in some cases, become a tool for political pressure against opponents.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced that approximately 38 acres of land in Faizabad city, the capital of Badakhshan province, have been identified as government property and registered in the name of the government following an investigation by the “Commission for the Prevention of Government Property Usurpation.”
