UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Travels to Qatar for Consultations on Afghanistan

According to the announcement from this body, Bennett will meet during his trip with officials from the Qatari government, a group of Afghan citizens, and representatives from various countries to exchange views on options for regional and international support for the rights of the people of Afghanistan.

This trip, scheduled from October 1 to 4, has been described as part of the United Nations' efforts to foster greater coordination among global actors in response to the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan.

The United Nations has emphasized that the Special Rapporteur's presence in the region is aimed at exploring ways to "employ all available tools" to support the human rights of Afghan citizens and demonstrates the continued focus of this body on the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.

Bennett, whose mandate was extended by the Human Rights Council in October of this year, has published important reports in recent years on human rights violations in Afghanistan, particularly the restrictions imposed on women and girls.

Qatar, which maintains close relations with the Taliban, has hosted three major United Nations meetings on Afghanistan in recent years and has become one of the focal points for regional discussions on the future of this country.

The United Nations has announced that Richard Bennett, the Special Rapporteur of this body on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, will travel to Doha for a four-day visit to hold discussions with Qatari officials and representatives of the international community about the human rights crisis in Afghanistan.
