Taliban Justice Ministry: Monitoring groups have been established to control house rents in Kabul

According to the Taliban, these groups are tasked with thoroughly reviewing lease contracts and recording and following up on any violations by real estate agencies.

On Wednesday, 19 Sunbula, the Taliban Ministry of Justice issued a statement saying that homeowners are not allowed to increase rental prices by more than 10 percent compared to the previous year, and those who violate this rule will face legal prosecution.

The Taliban Ministry of Justice also emphasized that contracts drawn up on "plain paper" or informal documents have no legal validity, and if identified, violators will be legally prosecuted.

This decision comes at a time when the housing crisis in Kabul has intensified due to the increasing expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries and a shortage of housing in major cities. Many citizens say finding a home in the capital has become difficult, and rental costs have risen significantly.

The Taliban had previously announced that tenants could file complaints against landlords for illegal rent increases; however, citizens say filing a complaint is practically difficult, as they fear facing the risk of eviction from their homes after lodging a complaint.

The Taliban Ministry of Justice has that it has established special groups to control and monitor residential rental prices in Kabul.
