Israeli government approves first phase of ceasefire agreement with Hamas

This agreement paves the way for establishing a ceasefire in the two-year Gaza war and the return of all remaining hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners.

The approval by the Israeli cabinet, which took place after midnight in Israel and Thursday evening in the United States, came a few hours after both Trump and Hamas's senior negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, announced that the war in Gaza had ended.

Al-Hayya, in a televised speech, stated that Israel and Hamas had "reached an agreement to end the war," and the United States had provided guarantees that the war was over.

Meanwhile, Trump, at the White House, described this initial agreement between Israel and Hamas as a "historic breakthrough" that "will bring peace back to the Middle East."

He also announced that the hostages held in Gaza would be released early next week, and the exchange of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel would take place on "Monday or Tuesday."

The Israeli government on Friday, October 10, approved the first phase of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, which was mediated by Donald Trump, the President of the United States.
