United Nations: US, Taliban to resolve Bagram issue through dialogue

He emphasized that issues such as the Bagram Airbase should be resolved through dialogue between the United States and the Taliban.

This comes as Donald Trump, the U.S. President, had previously demanded control of the airbase and warned the Taliban that if it is not handed over to Washington, “bad things” would happen. He described Bagram as important for monitoring China’s nuclear activities and, despite his threatening tone, expressed hope that an agreement could be reached with the Taliban regarding it.

On the other hand, the UN spokesperson reacted to the internet blackout and restrictions in Afghanistan, describing them as stemming from “the Taliban and other ruling groups’ fear of the people’s voice.” However, the Taliban stated that high-speed fiber optic internet was cut off to prevent vices, a decision that has dealt a severe blow to commerce and education in Afghanistan.

The spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General announced on Wednesday that the organization alone is unable to change the situation in Afghanistan, particularly regarding women’s rights, and requires the cooperation of the international community.
