At least seven journalists have been arrested by the Taliban in the past three weeks.

The center, on Tuesday (7 Asad), stated in a statement with concern that currently, at least 15 journalists and media workers are in Taliban custody.


According to the center, one journalist and two media activists were detained on Thursday (2 Asad) on charges of holding training courses for girls and were transferred to the Taliban intelligence directorate for interrogation.


Also, on Wednesday (1 Asad), an individual in the Karte-Seh area of Kabul was detained on charges of designing and providing technical support for news websites operating outside the country and was transferred to the Taliban intelligence prison.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center added that on 16 Saratan, a local journalist in one of Afghanistan’s provinces was detained and, after two days, was released upon providing two guarantors and committing to comply with strict media conditions.


According to this report, on Tuesday (24 Saratan), Taliban intelligence agents and the Ministry of Virtue and Vice raided the office of the media company “Pixel,” detaining the company’s manager and deputy and confiscating its equipment, including cameras, computers, and data storage devices.


However, the identities of these individuals have not been disclosed for security reasons.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center, while condemning the detention of these journalists, has called on the Taliban to release these individuals unconditionally and to respect the freedom of the media and media workers.


Meanwhile, sources say that the number of detained journalists is higher than the reported figure but has not yet been publicized.


According to reports, the Taliban group, since returning to power, has detained, tortured, and harassed hundreds of journalists.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center announced that in the past three weeks, Taliban morality police and intelligence agents have detained at least seven journalists and media activists in Kabul and another province.
